The Teddysexuals is not a normal three piece, guitar rock band. It’s an evolving monster, like a group of threatened Gumbles throwing their bodies together, creating one giant to ward off the enslaving designs of Bottersnikes. Though Bottersnike (ugly and mean) mentality may manifest itself within the band from time to time, the collective forms a protective shield of self-expression and creativity to ease the core members (Hamish – vox and guitar, Tolly – Drums, and Nik – bass) through any dark days.

This group is sea-going and more than worthy. Their songs sneak onto surf-related viewing material while the band members sneak into the sea at every given opportunity – ultimately inspiring epic instrumentals like Hovercraft and Devil Horses, and albums of the same name. When not in the water they prefer to be onstage, thrashing their instruments, bodies and larynxes with fiendish abandon and inviting the audience to let go in kind. A gig is not just a gig. It’s the hour of real life to be lived when the waiting is over.

Through the past year, the band and select musical friends have been constructing something unique – a long player named Devil Horses. Devil Horses are the bent, burnt and twisted things that humans and other creatures inevitably become as they lurch from one shelter to another, all the while being hounded and malformed by events beyond their (and our) control. An unholy hybrid of Nazgul, Dragon and Sea Horse.

The album careens from flat-out guitar rock and riffery to brooding instrumental to pure, expressive songwriting; laced with the skewed humour that is the Devil Horses’ antidote to any ill. So drink deep, turn it up and do what you like, even if it kills you.
